Archaeology Field School - 2004 Excavations

The 2004 archaeological field season at Old Fort Niagara represents a partnership between the Buffalo Museum of Science and Buffalo State College's Department of Anthropology

Under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Peņa and Susan Maguire, this season's work focuses on features related to the War of 1812 era at Fort Niagara. Returning to a part of the parade ground where a portion of an early 19th-century midden deposit was identified in 2001, excavation units were places to recover a systematic sample of the deposit with the goal of understanding its formation process and enhancing its interpretation.

This web site presents a week by week account of the 2004 field season, from sod removal to backfilling. Come see what we found!

This site is active though missing certain days of the season excavations.
The project will resume for completion in August 2004.
Thanks you for your patience
