Through a Clouded Mirror: Africa at the Pan American Exposition, Buffalo 1901

Photos of the Pan American Exposition, Buffalo 1901

Welcome

Africa at the Pan American Exposition, brought to you by the Buffalo Museum of Science
and sponsored by the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation

We see the past through a clouded mirror, reflecting our own experiences and values onto the activities and realities of people who can no longer speak for themselves.

One hundred years ago, Africans came to Buffalo to live, work, and perform in the African Village on the Pan-Am’s Midway.  The Midway was their home from June 10th through November 1st, 1901.
