Biogeography of the genus Tachyta
(Coleoptera: Carabidae: Bembidiini)

Phylogenetic and distribution data obtained from: Erwin, T. L 1975. Studies of the subtribe Tachyina (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Bembidiini), Part III: Systematics, Phylogeny, and Zoogeograpy of the genus Tachyta Kirby. Smithsonian Contributions to Zoology 208: 1-61.

The biogeography involves two distinct trans-Atlantic connections. A north American-Eurasian connection involving the nana and falli groups which are then related to the African pseudovirens group. Overlapping the pseudovirens group in Africa is the picina group which is also present in Hispaniola and provides the second trans-Atlantic connection. The two remaining subgenera in the Western Pacific have sister group status to the previous subgenera. A nearest neighbor connection links these groups to the Eurasian localities of the nana group, although a trans-Indian Ocean connection presents another possibly.
