Stop: 01/25/2014 03:30PM
Inspired by the “Makerspace” movement that has spread into museums, across the country, our Sparks and Makeshift workshops support learning in an informal, play-focused environment that cultivates an interest in science, technology and design using new technologies and basic tools. These spaces offer scheduled activities where visitors can discover their inner-engineer with no limits except your curiosity and creativity. Sparks is designed to inspire families with younger children while Makeshift is for more in-depth exploration.
Join us for facilitated workshops on select weekends of the month:
Sparks Saturday Workshops
All programs run from 12-1:30pm OR 2-3:30pm.
January 25: Cool Crystals Join us as we explore the art of crystals. We will look at crystals in the museums collection from a scientific and artistic perspective. Participants will create a unique work of SciArt to take home!
February 1: Recycled Glass Join us as we examine the physical properties of glass and make unique fused glass creations.
February 8: Sew Amazing We will use our studio as a make-it space to create using textiles. We will look at the museum's textile collection for inspiration, and students will design and construct using the museums sewing machines.
February 15: Geometry Art This interdisciplinary workshop will focus on shapes in art. Using M.C. Esher as our inspiration, we will explore tessellation and repetition in this fun math art workshop.
