In 2001, the 140th year of the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences, the Museum launched a 10 year initiative to rebuild itself as a major regional educational resource and tourist attraction. Funding from the John R. Oishei Foundation helped jumpstart this critical foundation building stage. The Oishei support helped establish the Center for Science Learning of the capacity building effort. This initiative supports the Museum’s efforts to retool the complete institution around its educational purpose, tapping its array of scientific and natural assets in a partnership-rich process. The Center for Science Learning provides the educational programming at the Buffalo Museum of Science, Tifft Nature Preserve and the Elmwood Science Spot.
