Chemical composition of post Ice Age animals

A collaborative project between Dr. Richard Laub of the Buffalo Museum of Science and Dr. Peter Bush from the South Campus Instrumentation Center, University at Buffalo. This project utilizes x-ray thermolumenesce technology to identify the chemical compostion of bones and other artifacts found at the Byron site. The chemical signatures will be analyzed for any significant patterns that may indicate historical changes in geographic distribution or origin. This approach may provide a unique insight into the historical ecology and biology of extinct animals in the region such as the mastodon.
