Harold and Mary Cohen : The Papua New Guinea Slide Collection
Object ID:
Papua New Guinea
The backs of two highlanders from an unknown group watch the performing group in the background, also facing away from the camera. The front group's simple attire seems compiled from plants and trees, except for the many layers of trade beads at their waits. Even their head caps are made from woven strips of leaves. The performing group's feathers are either the tail brown and tan barred feathers from an owl or a night—jar. Their head caps and head bands are bright yellow and red, matching their necklaces.
