River's Edge Towards Angoram, Shade Trees
Lower Sepik, Angoram Village Market, Papua New Guinea
Image overlooking water to the shore with a row of housing structures.

Along the Sepik River's edge en route to Angoram, villages can be seen. Each thatched—roof house in this passing village is supported with log stilts. High under stories are used for storage, working, and keeping domestic animals. A thatch overhang shelters the stairs up to the living space during rainy season. The ability to bring the log stair steps into the upper story prevents unwanted animals from climbing up. Canoes sit at the water's edge.
