Path to House at Water's Edge
Trobriand Group, Kumwegeia Village, Papua New Guinea
Two thatched roof structures are seen with three children in between them along a path that leads to the houses. Houses and paths along the shoreline visible to the right of the image.

Children stand in front of their one—story house on stilts. The walls are made of bamboo poles. The roof is thatched with palm or banana leaves held into place with strips of cut bamboo or sticks from nearby trees. Both grow all around the small village. A path leads to their canoe. The small village of Kumewegeia is on Kitava Island, one of the Trobriands in the Milne Bay of the Solomon Sea.
