lush vegetation and hills
East Cape, Papua New Guinea
Lush hillside with various tropical vegetation, a sandy beach as seen on the right side of photograph and a wooden thatched hut or building structure. Other structures are visible through the trees along the shore.

The Owen Stanley Mountain Ridge reaches down to the water's edge of the Milne Bay On the northeastern end of Papua New Guinea. Over 435 islands (some with volcanoes), atolls, and coral reefs are scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. The waters are difficult to navigate because of the small landmasses and shallow waters. On land the houses are almost hidden by the lush trees.
