Description:
Four Highlands men pose for photographers as women of their village sit on the ground. Each wears the same grass skirt made from the river grasses. They all wear headdresses of various bird feathers, mostly from the emu—like flightless cassowary. The second man on the left wears part of the "false wings" on the breast of a Superb bird of paradise. Each wears a headband beneath his headdress. Visible headbands are made from trade store beads. Both the women and the men paint their faces with bright yellow and red but in no consistent pattern. They carry their bows and arrows. One man wears trade store beads on his chest. Two wear leaves haptically.
