Breakthroughs with Geyser Beginning to Emerge
Dei Dei Hot Springs, Fergusson Island, Papua New Guinea
D'Entrecasteaux Group:

Two holes in the dry, brown earth bubble with water at the edge of green foliage ground covering.

Cavities in the ground may suddenly spew scalding water with minerals into the air. People carefully watch for steam protruding from the earth at Dei Dei hot springs on Fergusson Island, the largest of three in the D'Entrecasteaux group of islands in Milne Bay Province near the eastern tip of New Guinea in the Solomon Sea. Villagers wash their clothes, boil foods, and use the mineral—laden waters for healing. Tales are told of retribution between husbands and straying wives, suicide, religious misconduct, and societal missteps.
