Large crabs are trussed for grilling. They lay in a basket woven from leaves of nearby palm trees and river grasses. Mendam villagers have plentiful seafood off Manam Island in the Murik Lakes region along the Upper Sepik River. Crabs come from all around the Bismarck Archipelago area.
