In the foreground, various tribes are resting. On the front right, two men have their backs to the camera. One on the right wears an extravagant headdress of many birds of paradise, including the coveted rifle bird with its iridescent turquoise breast and pitch black lower body feathers. Atop the head are tall orange flank plumes of the Raggiana bird of paradise and light yellow flank feathers of the greater bird of paradise. Hanging down his back is a fur body and tail of the cuscus possum. He wears a skirt of stripped leaves, some of which are dyed. His body is randomly painted with orange paint.
