Object ID:

Place:
Papua New Guinea
Description:
Group of men in costume, two in front play the drums and appear to be singing. They wear grass skirts, black, white and orange body paint. They are also decorated with shells.

During various ceremonies, many Highlands tribes color their bodies in stripes of colored clays. Both the men and women in this group stripe their faces, bodies and extremities with wide white, grey—blue, and yellow. Their heads are covered with caps that are also the same colors. A few men stick feathers or boars' tusks into the caps.
