D'Entrecasteaux Group

Geothermal hot springs produce steam that can spout up unexpectedly as one walks along the pathways of Fergusson Island, the largest of three in the D'Entrecasteaux group of islands in Milne Bay Province near the eastern tip of New Guinea in the Solomon Sea. In this photograph, a hot spring ejects a column of hot water and steam into the air. Only about 1000 geysers exist worldwide. Half of them are in Yellowstone National Park, USA.
