Description:
Suli Muli tribesmen live in scattered homesteads dispersed through the Wabag district of the Enga Province, the second most rugged province in PNG. The men make their wigs from their own hair. Each wig is held in place with a decorated headband. The distinctive round wig is topped with feathers from the sicklebird. Some also wear white tail feathers. Others wear plumes from various birds of paradise. In this photo, the men's skin is blackened with blue color added to the tree oil or pig's grease that makes their bodies shine. A woman on the left does not blacken her skin or make it shiny but she wears the same tall headdress.
