D'Entrecasteaux Group:

Color image of two thatched roof homes with vertical bamboo siding. Tall palm trees tower from behind.

On Dobu Island, two bamboo—slatted one—story houses are raised on stilts. Ladders and fences for the gardens are made from nearby plentiful wood. Rain frequently swells the Sea, flooding the land. Storage area beneath each house becomes unusable. Thatch roofs are easily replaced. Dobu Island is one of three islands in the D'Entrecasteaux group in Milne Bay Province near the eastern tip of New Guinea in the Solomon Sea.
