Tell-A-Friend

All of the local community efforts of the Buffalo Museum of Science (BMS) fall under the umbrella of Science in the City (SITC). There are several components to the SITC initiative.

COOL SCIENCE
in conjunction with the Buffalo & Erie Country Public Library System!

Thanks to a unique partnership between the Buffalo Museum of Science (BMS) and the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System (B&ECPLS), youngsters in the City of Buffalo will have the opportunity to enhance their literacy and science skills through a FREE fun-filled series of programs being offered in all city library branches during the next three months.

The “Cool Science” series, featuring four weekly, after-school programs designed for children ages 8-12, gives students the chance to learn through “doing, talking, reading, and writing about science.”  The Museum of Science’s educational arm, The Center for Science Learning, provides the instructional staff and the science units.  The Library System will host the series and take the lead in promoting the events and recruiting youth to participate. GRASP – Great After-School Science Programs
The Buffalo Museum of Science offers after-school programs in various community centers throughout the city of Buffalo. SITC partners receive weekly 60 – minute science based lessons and activities. GRASP is offered in 10 week increments during Fall & Spring school sessions. If you are interested in having a Museum educator come to your site please fill out this form and return it to the museum.

Sun-sational Science

All SITC Summer initiatives are a part of Sun-sational Science. We offer the following:

  • Outreach visits to community organizations: A BMS educator will come to your center to deliver a 60 – minute science based activity. Click here for an application form.
  • BMS/Tifft Nature Preserve field trips: Sign up for a SITC summer field trip by calling (716) 896-5200, Ext. 338.
  • Thursdays in the Park: Six weeks of fun science activities. We will offer fun science activities in MLK Jr. Park. This is a FREE program however, pre-registration is required.
Have a Sun-sational Science Summer!

Science Camp Scholarships

Partial scholarships are available for our science camps. These awards are based on need and availability of funds. You will be notified of approval 2 weeks before the beginning of camp. To apply please complete the Camp Scholarship application form.

Funding for the scholarship program is made possible by generous donations from individual contributors. You may contribute to this fund by completing the David Chesebrough Legacy scholarship fund form. Your generosity in supporting the Adopt-a-Camper program will guarantee that campers who need it most have the opportunity to attend camp.

Centered on Science Project

Centered on Science

The Buffalo Museum of Science has partnered with the Buffalo Community Center Collaborative (BCCC) to meet an identified need for quality educational and recreational programming for patrons of the BCCC. The BCCC is a community based organization comprised of 12 community centers located in the four quadrants of the city of Buffalo. COS has been generously funded for two years by the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation.

Centered on Science has 4 components. Two project liaisons from the BMS will:

  • Deliver GRASP in each center.
  • Deliver weekly outreach programs and facilitate a field trip to Tifft Nature Preserve and the BMS as part of our Sun-sational Science program.
  • Develop educational science kits to be distributed in each center.
  • Train community center staff to use the science kits in their center.
