Homeschool Science

FRIDAYS 2:00 – 3:00 PM
4 week themes – Once a week for specified 4 week sessions       
Fee: $48 per child per 4 week session

Explore the Living Environment

Pre-register by 9-12-12
What do we need to be healthy? How are we different from animals or plants? We will explore how different animals are classified, the differences in their life cycles, and what birds and reptiles have in common.

Investigate the Science of Cooking 
October 26 November 2, 9, 16
Pre-register by 10-17-12
How does bread rise? We will examine measurements and explore the differences in solids, liquids, and gases while creating edible experiments.

Weather Around the World

Pre-register by 1-9-13
In Western New York, we have harsh winters and great summers. Join us as we take a look at weather in other parts of the country and the rest of the world. We will look at rain fall, temperature, and wind currents and learn how these factors affect the day to day weather.

Journey to the Center of the Earth….Almost

Why do some places have earthquakes and volcanoes while others do not? We will uncover more about our earth by investigating the rocks, sand, and soils under our feet!

Earth Science September 21, 28

Whether it’s Paleontology, Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, Limnology, or Geography….we will scratch the surface of some and delve deeper into the areas that interest us the most!

Biology  
October 26 November 2, 9, 16
Pre-register by 10-17-12  
Biology is what we and all other living things are “all about”! We will find out about cells and microorganisms and what they have to do with animals. The further we go, the more we will realize that all organisms are complex and fascinating. 

Chemistry  
January 18, 25 February 1, 8
Pre-register by 1-9-13
Choose analytical, organic, inorganic, or physical chemistry to investigate any number of phenomena. We will try experimenting with acids and bases, household chemistry (including cooking and dyeing), and crystals and generate heat and cold, chemically speaking.  
  
Physics  
March 1, 8, 15, 22
Pre-register by 2-20-13
Physics is the overarching science. Newton’s Laws of Motion are the basis to predict what happens here on earth and all forms of energy fall under physics. Our Physics investigations will be endless!
