Explore YOU

Home > Educators > School Programs: BMS & Tifft > NEW Science Studios > Explore YOU

How many people really know how to take care of their body? After all, you only get one.

In the Health Science Studio, Explore YOU presented by Independent Health, visitors can explore anatomy and learn about important decisions they can make to improve and maintain their health. Interactive exhibits give a hands-on approach to disease prevention and treatment. Explore the most recent advances in medical technology and learn more about what is happening in the WNY medical community.

Learn how your students can Explore YOU through on-site workshops and outreach to your classroom:

Explore YOU Workshops

Workshops are hands-on, minds-on, and customized to be age-appropriate. They are specifically designed to encourage inquiry and student-directed learning.

Common Senses
Grades Pre-K - 2

What are our senses? How do they help us interpret our world? Students will explore how their senses interact to help them better understand the world around them.

Bodies Are Us…..
Grades K – 8

Choose three of the different components of human experience to investigate. Each topic includes interactive experiences and correlations with other species.

  • Senses—making our way in the world
  • Genetics—why we are who we are
  • Digestion—breaking it down-- a cast of thousands
  • Respiration—a process of all living things—but, check out the different ways to do it
  • Skeleton—make no bones about it, there’s more than one way to shape an organism
  • Muscles—do the locomotion with me—the many moves of muscles

Healthy Bodies
Grades  3 – 12

Delve deeper into the human body and the interactions between body systems. Students will realize the interconnectedness of the body systems and explore how nutrition and exercise impact quality of health. Diet related diseases (diabetes, heart disease, etc) will also be discussed.

Staying Alive!
Grade 5 - Lifelong Learners

Learning about body systems is not enough to stay healthy. A unique experience, our Staying Alive program, will help participants make lifelong decisions that will impact the quality of their health in positive ways. View real kitchen demonstrations, learn how to cook seasonal fruits and veggies and make a treat to eat! This program requires an additional $2 materials fee per person.

Outreach to your classroom:

Fat or Fiction
Grades 3 - 8

Our nation is at a crossroad, battling an epidemic of obesity and diabetes. Education is one way to help decrease the incidence of both of these diseases by aiding in healthy food awareness and choices. Students will be engaged as they watch how much fat is in a chip as it burns, see what a clogged artery looks like, and feel what 5lb of fat feels like!
