Geared for adults, Science Café takes the stiffness out of science and presents content in a fun and funny style. Come and experience a movement that is sweeping the world! Participants can also enjoy the chance to explore the museum after hours!
Our September Science Café explores the history and cultural significance of body art and the science behind tatoo removal, featuring:
6:00-6:30pm: Bodies of Art
with Kathy Leacock, BMS Curator of Collections
Tattoos, piercings, and microdermals - oh my! More than a Gen X phenomenon, experience the cultural traditions of body modification. Artistic expressions or rites of passage? There’s more to body alteration than upsetting one’s parents. The BMS’ Curator of Collections, Kathy Leacock, will explore the world of Body Art.
7:30-8:00pm: Removing “Artistic Mistakes”
with Corry Wierzbowski, R-PAC, CLT, The Skin Center at Southgate Medical Group
Learn how and why modern technology is making “Ink Regret” obsolete and take a real life look at the science behind laser tattoo removal.
