SCIENCE STUDIOS

Over the next four to five years, BMS will transform its museum experience by installing eight permanent science studios. Defined as “a new model of interactive science exhibition”, science studios integrate the museum’s unique collections with hands-on, interactive experiences focusing on different areas of science. Entry to science studios is included with general museum admission and free for BMS Members.

EXPLORATIONS EARLY CHILDHOOD GALLERY

Explorations is a hands-on, interactive exhibit experience designed for toddlers and early childhood explorers.

WHEM ANKH: The Cycle of Life in Ancient Egypt

Gain insight into daily life as lived on the banks of the lower Nile River 2,200 years ago and see real mummies!

Meet the museums newest (and biggest!) family members!

     
 

MYSTERIES OF EXTINCTION

Use forensic thinking to trace back to the lives of today's extinct species and see specimens of fossils and dinosaur skeletons - many of which were previously on display in our former Dinosaurs & Co. gallery.

     
 

OUR PLACE IN SPACE

Take an intergalactic journey and explore the meteorites, satellite technology, the seasons of Earth and much more.

     
 

CONNECTIONS

Both the Connections and Spineless galleries have been combined and moved into our 3rd floor connecting gallery as we install our 3rd science studio in the old Spineless space.

     
 

GEMS AND MINERALS

Gems and Minerals is now longer available. Many specimens have been moved into our new Earth systems studio, Our Marvelous Earth.

     
 

THE MARCHANDS: Scientific Illustrators

Delicate and precisely detailed wax reconstructions of plant life and other natural specimens created by the Marchand family.

     
 

WESTERN NEW YORK WOODLANDS

Investigate the history of woodland growth and evolution and view a cross section of a sequoia tree that first emerged from its seed in the early days of the Roman Empire.

     
 

VERTEBRATE EVOLUTION

Trace the lineages of vertebrate evolution from the earliest animals with backbones over 400 million years ago to the present.

     
 

DIGGING INTO WESTERN NEW YORK'S PAST

The exhibit contains a rich array of fossils and artifacts, many found at the Museum's archeological dig site in Genesee County, New York, documenting the changing fauna, flora, cultures and environments of the Northeast over the past 13,500 years.

     
 

ECOLOGY OF THE NIAGARA FRONTIER

This exhibit gives a three dimensional feel for the nature of ecology and environment.

     
 

TIBETAN SAND MANDALA

This is one of the only examples this type of ritual artwork on permanent exhibit in North America. Temporarily unavailable.
