Gems and Minerals
Gems and Minerals exhibits of just a number of the more than 10,000 specimens and over 1,000 minerals held at the Buffalo Museum of Science. Displays present information on the principal types of mineral such as calcite, hematite, gypsum and quartz as well as the various elements and chemical compounds that contribute the diversity of color, texture, and structure of minerals, including how some are shaped into art forms. Discover how minerals are formed, how to identify different minerals, and explore the types of minerals found in the Ontario and New York regions.
