Human Origin and The Great Apes

Primate Evolution

This page will provide a gate to information that raises questions about the evolutionary origins of human biology with respect to whether our nearest living relatives are represented by chimpanzees/African apes or the orangutan. This site is still under development.

Human origins and evolution

Human origin is widely portrayed as a fairly straightforward and unproblematic story of evolution from a common ancestor with the chimpanzee and bonobo in Africa about 6-7 million years ago (links). This web page presents a more problematic picture of the evidence that has significant implications for understanding human evolution as many features widely viewed as having evolved in our immediate human ancestors are also found in orangutans.
