Members of the Houghton Chapter meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. from September through April at the Buffalo Museum of Science. Meeting format consists of a lecture followed by a group discussion on a wide range of archaeological topics. Membership includes laymen, students and professionals. Visitors are welcome.

2006 Schedule of Speakers

During summer months, opportunities exist to visit or dig at various archaeological sites located in western New York. Last summer, members were invited to excavate at the Eaton site, an Iroquoian village site dating to ca. A.D. 1550.

Membership includes announcements of the monthly meetings and The Bulletin, the Journal of the New York State Archaeological Association, published biannually. The Frederick M. Houghton Chapter, founded in 1961, is a chapter of the NewYork State Archaeological Association (NYSAA). The NYSAA is a non-profit organization composed of 15 chapters whose members are dedicated to the study and preservation of New York Stateís historic and prehistoric past.
