Behavior, Ecology, Conservation Dr. Jerome Jackson will examine the ecological roles of woodpeckers in natural ecosystems and how those roles have changed in our modern world. He will address questions, including why some species like the Ivory-billed Woodpecker are either extinct or extremely rare, while similar species such as the Pileated Woodpecker have remained relatively common. Dr. Jackson will also touch on the cultural and political history of woodpeckers, and give the audience a rare glimpse of life inside a woodpecker nest. Searchers for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker and other conservation issues associated with woodpeckers will be reviewed. He will also provide information on how to attract and provide for woodpeckers in urban and suburban landscapes. |
