Programs at The Park School

We’re happy to announce a partnership with The Park School enabling us to extend our science programming outside the Museum walls and enrich young minds with hands-on science.

Thanks to the generosity of the Park School, all of the programs will take place on the Park School campus in Amherst, New York and provide children with opportunities to learn, to grow, and to explore the worlds around us.

Below is a list of the upcoming programs offered at The Park School. We hope you can join us!

 

Science In House: After School Science Programming at Park School

AGES 8-12
Come to the Park School for exciting hands-on science fun with the Buffalo Museum of Science! Sessions meet on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 and run for 6 week sessions on varying themes.

Location: The Park School, 4625 Harlem Road, Amherst, NY
Time: 3:30-4:30
Cost: $100/child for each session;
$275 if you advance register for all 3 sessions

Human Body:
What gets your heart pumping? How fast can you respond? Dissect a cow eye, a bone, a muscle, and design your own experiments to test your various body systems.
Dates: 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3 2/10

Consumer Science
Analyze materials found around your house to learn the wonders of chemistry in your own cabinets
Dates: 3/3, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 4/14, 4/21 (weeks 3/31 and 4/7 are skipped due to spring break)

 

Vacation Camp at Park School - Full Day Programs

You are off of school, so come on adventures with us! Supported by the Buffalo Museum of Science.

Location: The Park School, 4625 Harlem Road, Amherst, NY
Time: 9:30-3:30
Cost: $45/Buffalo Museum of Science members, $55/nonmembers
Bring: A lunch (a snack will be provided)

Wednesday, February 17: Magical Science for all grades K-8
Learn ways to trick or impress your friends and family as we explore the explosive nature of magic before your very eyes. (students will be split up amongst age groups)

 

Vacation Camp at Park School - Half Day Programs

Time: 12-3:30 pm
Cost: $25/Buffalo Museum of Science members, $35/nonmembers
Bring: A lunch (a snack will be provided)

Friday, January 15: Science of Food

Grades K-2: Icky Sticky Science
Get messy with ooey, gooey, slimy concoctions! Be sure to dress for mess!

Grades 3-5: Whatcha Got Cookin?
We’ll learn what makes a cake rise, how to make cheese, why milk curdles and more

Grades 6-8: Food 911
To gel or not to gel-that is the question! Ever read a jello box? Why are there warnings against adding certain foods? We’ll explore secret ingredients in foods that can make your cooking flip or flop.

 

Friday, March 26: Physical Physics

Grades K-2: Up, Up in the Air
Discover the science of flight: How do airplanes, birds, and insects fly? Can you build
your own flying object?

Grades 3-5: Build It, Break It
Constructive and destructive fun! Become and engineer and an architect and explore how bridges and buildings are built and demolished.

Grades 6-8: Roller Coaster Physics
Examine the science behind roller coasters and other amusement park rides by delving into world of gravity, friction, and energy. Physics will make your heart skip a beat.
