Grades K-2 (ages 5-7)

1.)  Living Lightly on the Earth
September 16, 23, 30 and October 7
PRE-REGISTER BY SEPTEMBER 7
Ever wonder why adults are always saying “Please turn off the lights….Don’t let the water run when you brush your teeth… Don’t forget to throw that paper in the recycling bin….”? Join us as we learn about how our environment works and the many ways we can help to keep it healthy.

2.)  Found in Space
October 28 and November 4, 11, 18
PRE-REGISTER BY OCTOBER 19
What is up there in the dark sky besides stars? What happens to the stars during the day? Why does the moon appear to change shape? Have you ever thought about these questions and more? Explore with us as we investigate the sun, the moon, and all the other wonders beyond our Earth.

3.)  Culture Quest
January 20, 27 and February 3, 10
PRE-REGISTER BY JANUARY 11
Why do we eat turkey for Thanksgiving? What do people mean when they say “American as apple pie”? Why do we do the things we do and eat the foods we eat? Join us as we learn about some of the cultures and customs that our ancestors brought with them when they came to this country and what they learned from the people who were already here. Explore, create, and taste what makes us different and what we have in common with cultures around the world.

4.)  Invention Convention
March 2, 9, 16, 23
PRE-REGISTER BY FEBRUARY 22
Have you ever dreamt of inventing the perfect cookie or a machine that can make your bed for you? Connect with your creative side and create a new product. Explore how things work and how they are made. Come up with some improvements on some of your favorite things as we have our own Invention Convention!

Grades 3-5 (ages 8-10), and
Grades 6-8 (ages 11-13)

1.)  Living Lightly on the Earth
September 16, 23, 30 and October 7
PRE-REGISTER BY SEPTEMBER 7
How we use our natural resources may influence our survival on this earth. Is the future in alternative energies? Solar? Wind? Hydro? Geothermal? Can we learn to “reduce, reuse, recycle” enough to change the habit of excessive consumerism? Are there truly effective natural substitutes to the poisons we use to eliminate pests in our fields and houses? We will delve into all these areas and search for solutions.

2.)  Found in Space
October 28 and November 4, 11, 18
PRE-REGISTER BY OCTOBER 19
Astronomy is full of concepts that we find almost incomprehensible. How big is the universe? What is a black hole? Answers regarding our solar system are still being discovered. Journey with us as we explore current ideas, use instruments that help form answers, and experiment with the effects of living in space. Join us as we make model rockets and “blast off” into space to see what we can find.

3.)  Culture Quest
January 20, 27 and February 3, 10
PRE-REGISTER BY JANUARY 11
We are all one species, but consider the variety of cultures that exist. Learn something about the language, customs, foods, and idiosyncrasies of cultures close to home and continents away. Are we really all so different or more alike than we imagine? It is a journey well worth taking.

4.)  Invention Convention
March 2, 9, 16, 23
PRE-REGISTER BY FEBRUARY 22
Have you ever created an “invention”? Every time you solve a problem, you have actually “invented” a solution. You will attack a problem and find the answer in an invention. Re-engineering is a part of the process, and we will be there to help. The culmination will be our participation in the annual “Invention Convention”.
