FOSSILS: EXPLORING EARTH’S PASTWhere have we been and where are we going? Students investigate the past by exploring clues left behind- fossils! How have organisms changed and why? How much of the puzzle can we unravel? Are there fossils in your own backyard? Students use scientific grade casts and real fossils to make observations and deductions. CRIME INVESTIGATIONUse math, chemistry, and physics in the guise of footprints, ransom notes, and fingerprints to solve a crime in much the same way police officers and forensic scientists do. Students will learn the science behind the scenes.

PROBEWARE WHERE?Want to get your students collecting scientific data in the field, but lack the tools to do so? Have a Tifft Nature Preserve educator come to your classroom to share with your students how to collect and analyze readings on temperature, pH, wind speed (using an anemometer), water quality (nitrate, ammonia, lead levels) and more. We also have probeware to do human body calculations as well. Please notify the reservationist of the area of study in which you are interested. |

EVOLUTIONHow do we determine relationships between organisms? Entice your students in a way that asks the tough questions. What is a homologous or an analogous structure? Students will get to see and touch museum collections to determine evolutionary relationships. NEW! FASCINATING FOOD: WHAT DID YOUR LUNCH COST?Students are greatly disconeccted from their food supply and the impacts their choices make on the Earth. By taste testing seasonal produce, incorporating "Farm to Table" ideas and analyzing the distance food travels, students will come away with a better understanding of how local is better and ways they can make a change. |
