Grades
Pre-K – 2

DIGGING DINOSAURS

Students play paleontologists as they examine the fossilized teeth, horns, and claws of various dinosaurs to learn about the unique adaptations of these ancient beasts! They’ll also dig up and assemble their own dinosaur skeleton as they venture into prehistoric times.

INCREDIBLE INSECTS AND BUGGY FRIENDS

Take a close-up look at real live insects and bugs – count their legs, look at their eyes, and learn about their other body parts. Explore insect and bug anatomy and the fascinating behaviors of the creepy and crawly inhabitants of the natural world.

Grades
Pre-K to 8

NATURE DETECTIVES

Put on your detective hat and get ready to play Sherlock Holmes and investigate the traces and clues that different animals leave behind. Students use their senses to explore the sights, sounds, and smells of the natural world.

BIODIVERSITY BLITZ: ANIMALS OF OUR REGION

Weave the web of life in the Niagara Frontier! Through a variety of interactive experiences, students explore the ways that different species live and depend on each other. They’ll also learn about the three levels of diversity – genetics, habitat, and species.

Grades
3 - 6

NEW! FASCINATING FOOD: FAT OR FICTION?

What’s really in that snack pack? Many students do not know how their food choices impact their bodies. In this interactive outreach, students will see the vitamin differences between fresh and processed foods and compare fat contents of common snacks through a fiery approach.

Grades
3 – 8

FOSSILS: EXPLORING EARTH’S PAST

Where have we been and where are we going? Students investigate the past by exploring clues left behind- fossils! How have organisms changed and why? How much of the puzzle can we unravel? Are there fossils in your own backyard? Students use scientific grade casts and real fossils to make observations and deductions.

CRIME INVESTIGATION

Use math, chemistry, and physics in the guise of footprints, ransom notes, and fingerprints to solve a crime in much the same way police officers and forensic scientists do. Students will learn the science behind the scenes.

A CLASS ACT: ANIMAL CLASSIFICATION

This hands-on program highlights the major classes of vertebrates and invertebrates. Using live animals and mounted specimens, students become the scientist as they devise classification methods for different animals.

SCIENCE BELOW ZERO

This exciting liquid nitrogen program reinforces basic concepts of heat and kinetic energy in a really cool way. Students learn about molecules, phase changes, explosions, implosions, pressure, and density though a series of exciting and engaging demonstrations using liquid nitrogen.

WETLANDS AND WATER QUALITY

Using our Wetlands EnviroScape Model, students will learn what wetlands are and their functions and value. This outreach will focus on how humans affect wetlands and the importance of preserving them. A focus on point and non-point source pollution can also be integrated into this program.

MEASURE TREASURES

Unlock an adventure in your schoolyard using nature as the key! Students learn measurement in a practical and creative way: temperature and weather, tree math, sun energy, animal clues - the possibilities are immeasurable!

Grades
5 – 12

PROBEWARE WHERE?

Want to get your students collecting scientific data in the field, but lack the tools to do so? Have a Tifft Nature Preserve educator come to your classroom to share with your students how to collect and analyze readings on temperature, pH, wind speed (using an anemometer), water quality (nitrate, ammonia, lead levels) and more. We also have probeware to do human body calculations as well. Please notify the reservationist of the area of study in which you are interested.

Grades
7 – 12

EVOLUTION

How do we determine relationships between organisms? Entice your students in a way that asks the tough questions. What is a homologous or an analogous structure? Students will get to see and touch museum collections to determine evolutionary relationships.

NEW! FASCINATING FOOD: WHAT DID YOUR LUNCH COST?

Students are greatly disconeccted from their food supply and the impacts their choices make on the Earth. By taste testing seasonal produce, incorporating "Farm to Table" ideas and analyzing the distance food travels, students will come away with a better understanding of how local is better and ways they can make a change.
