Science Museum Camera Club

2011-12 Schedule

Meetings are held at the Buffalo Museum of Science, 1020 Humboldt Parkway, Buffalo, NY 14411-1293 on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month (unless otherwise noted). Meetings start at 7:00 p.m.

Guests are welcome at all meetings. If you decide to join, the annual dues are $25 for one or $40 for two family members. Click here for the club's brochure.

September 21 Welcome Back - “Sports Photography” by Tim Ludwig - How he approaches shooting fast moving sporting events. Tim has been published in Sports Illustrated and has photographed the Sabres. His day job is with the Advantage Company’s camera division.

October 5 First Digital Image and Print Competition Night

October 19 “Sundown Photography” -This evening will begin at 6:15 with cameras at the Richardson Complex on Elmwood Avenue where we will use the late sunlight to catch angles on this historical architecture.(sunset: 6:26 pm) At 7:15 we will return to the Museum to continue
learning about this interesting type of photography.

November 2 Second Digital Image and Print Competition Night

November 16 “Capture to Competition, Part I" by Charles Bartolotta - Learning how to get the best results in capturing digital images.

Saturday Nov. 19 The NFRCC Fall Seminar featuring Tim Grey will be held at Michael’s Banquet Facility in Hamburg New York.

December 7 Third Digital Image and Print Competition Night

December 21 Holiday Party - “Photo Mosaics - How to Create Your Own” Presented by: Anne Johnston Fera, freelance art director

January 4 Fourth Digital Image and Print Competition Night
The digital image assignment for this night is in 2 parts:

  • Subject: Macro/Close-up (no flowers); Technique: “the appearance of 100 year-old images.
  • The Print Assignment is for one color print on “Transportation.”

January 18, 2012 “Capture to Competition, Part II" by Charles Bartolotta - Learning how to process those images and prepare them to be winners at competition night.

February 1 Fifth Digital Image and Print Competition Night

February 15 E. Thomas Smith Nature Competition Members are invited to send in 4 nature digital images (see rules on nature entries). They don’t have to have been in competition before. The only nature images not accepted, are ones that won the E. Thomas Smith trophy in the past!

March 7 Sixth Digital Image and Print Competition Night

March 21 “Composition and Color” by Gerald Mead. This evening will provide an opportunity for us to receive some instruction in how to create strong compositions.

April 4 Seventh Digital Image and Print Competition Night

April 18 “Members Night” - A time for sharing about your interests and activities

May 2 Year End Competition “Digital Image of the Year” and “Print of the Year”

May 16 Awards Banquet - Dorothy Ralph Photo Essays
