Orangutan-Human Characters -- Scapula
In humans and orangutans the posterior side of the scapula (the side closest to the vertebral column, is the strightest, and the spind of the scapula deineating an upper (stippled) muscle attachment region from a lower one is the most horizontal. The upper region of the scapula is also most reduced relative to the lower region in humans and orangutans. See Schwartz (1988b: p. 197).
This character is supported even with variation taken into account (Schwartz, personal communication). The character is also provisionally accepted by Colin Groves (Australian National Unviersity) (personal communication).
