Get behind-the-scenes to see what few have seen and explore our research, special, and teaching collections in themed tours taking place throughout the month. Tours are approximately 2 hours in length.

Friday, April 7th at 7pm, be part of WNY music history as the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame recieves a special donation

For a limited time only, guests are invited to explore the evolution of the single most enduring icon in American history through the powerful lens of science. Experience diverse genres of music, discover the science of pitch and tone, and learn how the selection of materials and strings fused with electromagnetism and amplification to create an elaborate device that has revolutionized music. Crossing over cultural boundaries, the guitar has made a significant impact on a wide variety of groups. Join us on a rhythmic journey immersed in the heart of music, surrounded by 60 guitars and nearly 100 historical artifacts - including the Guinness Record-breaking 43.5 foot long playable guitar!

This fully immersive exhibition explores all facets of the world’s most popular instrument, from its history to the science of creating sound with wood and steel. Experience the science, sound, history, and profound impact of the guitar in an exhibition that contains a range of rare and antique to wildly popular and innovative instruments, along with hands-on interactives, models, touchscreens, performance video, audio, stunning images and photographs.

SPECIAL EXTENDED HOURS: Enjoy special extended hours every Wednesday and select Fridays (April 7, May 5) through 9pm throughout the course of the exhibit run!

Cory Wells’ Motorcycle Dedication Ceremony

Friday, April 7th, from 7pm to 9pm, join the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame and the Buffalo Museum of Science for the official dedication of the donation of Cory Wells’ Motorcycle to the BMHOF by the Wells’ family. 

Cory Wells was inducted into the BMHOF in 1997. He was a member of the Enemies and the world-famous Three Dog Night. Inducted members will be on hand to perform acoustic versions of songs form Three Dog Night. Cory’s family will be present to dedicate the gift of Cory’s motorcycle to the BMHOF. Join us for a night of music, fun and remembrance and enjoy the local guitar exhibit – 71Picks, sponsored by Chakra Communications, Inc. a companion home-grown space that accompanies Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked the World, Presented by M&T Bank with Associate Sponsor Chakra Communications.

The ceremony is included with admission to the museum and includes access to GUITAR: The Instrument That Rocked The World, Presented by M&T Bank and Associate Sponsor, Chakra Communications. GUITAR: The Instrument That Rocked The World is a touring exhibition of the National GUITAR Museum. Access to 71Picks will also be available. 71Picks, a “homegrown” exhibit, was created in partnership with the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame and features a selection of guitars, one that is signed by Cory Wells, and memorabilia that inspired the WNY music community.
