Major Gifts Officer

Department: Development
Position Title: Major Gifts Officer
Reports to: Director of Development 
Status: Full time/Exempt

Summary of Position

Reporting to the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer is a member of the Development Department of the Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences. This position is responsible for developing philanthropic relationships for both The Buffalo Museum of Science and Tifft Nature Preserve. Responsibilities include identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors and prospects, including individuals and corporations. This position will be required to meet yearly activity and revenue goals.

To be successful, the Major Gifts Officer must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Major Gifts Officer must have a sincere interest in stewarding donor relationships and investments, and a desire to work in a donor-centered development culture. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required. Education, Experience & Skills Required

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university, at least 5 years related experience in development, or equivalent combination of education and experience are important. Familiarity with developing and implementing sophisticated strategies for donor/volunteer involvement is required.

Ability to effectively present information verbally and to respond to questions from key leaders, donors and the general public is required. Excellent listening and writing skills are also necessary.

Museum Ambassador

Department: Learning & Interpretation
Position Title: Museum Ambassador
Reports to: Guest Experience Manager
Status: Part time/non-exempt

Position Overview

Summary of Position

The Museum Ambassador is the initial interface between the Museum and our guest and is responsible for all admissions, cinema and retail transactions. The ideal candidate is driven to provide, from start to finish, an exceptional guest experience. Museum Ambassador’s help guests have the best possible experience through friendly, positive interactions that make them feel like “Rock Stars.”

Staff accessibility is a top priority for our guests, and staff should always be available to serve where needed. Staff should be comfortable engaging with visitors and also be aware of general Museum and Tifft offerings such as workshops, camps and special events. Facilitator of Guest Experience

Department: Learning and Interpretation
Position Title: Facilitator of Guest Experience (a.k.a. Science Buffs)
Reports to: Guest Experience Manager
Status: Part time/Non-Exempt

Summary of Position

This staff member’s primary responsibility is to provide informative, engaging and fun learning experiences that will inspire curiosity and awe. This happens is a variety of situations and locations ranging from personnel facilitated experiences, to short interactive activities, to exhibit facilitation and demonstrations. A Facilitator of Guest Experience will help guests have the best possible experience through friendly, positive interactions that make them feel like “Rock Stars”. Additionally, this staff person will maintain a controlled and positive learning environment.

Staff accessibility is a top priority for our guests, and the Guest Experience Team should always be available to serve where needed. The Facilitator of Guest Experience should be comfortable discussing topics within assigned Science Studios and also be aware of general Museum offerings such as workshops, camps and special events. Facilitators must have a unique combination of a love for science, charismatic personality, curiosity and the ability to communicate easily with guests.
