Tifft Public Programs for Families

You can now register online for many of our public programs!
Just look for the "Register Now" buttons next to eligible programs.

Snowshoe Rentals

Traditional wood snowshoes and young children’s plastic snowshoes are available for rent in the Tifft Nature Preserve Visitor Center when snow is at least 6 inches deep.  Please call 716.825.6397 to ensure availability or for more information.

  • Children 3-6 years of age (up to 45 pounds) - $3 per pair
  • Children over 45 pounds and Adults - $5 per pair
  • Buffalo Museum of Science members save 10%

*Footwear is important-sturdy boots, such as hiking and work boots work best.  Avoid fashion boots (e.g. Uggs), spongy boots, sneakers and low shoes.

 

Wellness Walks

Drop by Tifft Nature Preserve and enjoy the fresh air and the sights and sounds of the season with a healthy outdoor walk!

Frosty Fun Festival

Celebrate winter in western New York and shake off your cabin fever! Drop in and join us for guided snowshoe* hikes, indoor winter crafts, snow animal sculpture contest (with prizes!), animal tracking, animal adaptations in winter, snowflake investigation station and more!  There will also be food and hot beverages available for purchase.  *Snowshoeing is weather permitting.

Spring Egg-stravaganza!

Drop in for an egg-stremely fun time at Tifft Nature Preserve! Learn about animals that come from eggs, make some spring-themed crafts, dye eggs using natural dyes (dye provided, please bring your own hard-boiled eggs; 6 eggs per person maximum) and more!

Signs of Spring Hike

Ever wonder how animals know it is spring? Which animals help usher in spring? Learn about the wildlife sights and sounds that help us know spring’s arrived at Tifft and also get information how you can be a citizen scientist while observing these species in your backyard or favorite natural space.

Earth Day Clean-up

Join us for a spring clean-up of the preserve in conjunction with the Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper Spring Shoreline Sweep. Refreshments will be served. Call 825-6397 for more information or to reserve a group. Bring your own work gloves and help out!

Earth Day Celebration
