Southtowns Walleye Association Fishing Derby
Bring your rod and reel for a day of fishing Tifft's Lake Kirsty, which is connected to Lake Erie! Sunfish,
bass, carp, and perch can be caught. Prizes, and educational exhibits will be available. Refreshments for sale and free hot dog lunch provided.

Families Start Worm Composting!
Are you eating your fruits and veggies? Throwing out the cores and peels? Have fun with the entire
family by learning how to create fresh, earthysmelling compost with your food remains by using
a worm bin. Kids will love it! The garden will love it! It’s biology, ecology and recycling fun all in one!

Bugs, Sunset and
Campfire Night

Take a healthy look at bugs with the whole family while hiking Tifft’s 40 acre grassland. Bug nets will
be provided. Hike to the highest mound (the second highest point in Buffalo!) and view the Lake Erie
sunset. Afterwards enjoy a campfire with s’mores!

Who’s-Watching-Who
Bird Watching

Celebrate the autumn bird migration on the nature trails at Tifft Nature Preserve with this guided birding tour. Meet at Tifft Nature Preserve and our
experienced bird enthusiast will lead you on Tifft’s trails. Tifft has the distinction of nearly 200 bird
species sightings annually, many during peak migration times like this! It is recognized by the
Audubon Society as an Important Bird Area. A great opportunity to see the fall warblers!

HEALTHY BY NATURE
at Tifft Nature Preserve

Now more than ever, we need to get in touch with our “wild side!”
Spending more time outside in natural environments provides
an opportunity to escape from stress, to be physically active, and to socialize. Our innate affinity with nature is supported by recent research linking exposure to natural environments with improved
mental and physical health.

Wellness Walks
Come to Tifft for a healthy outdoor walk with a botanical emphasis. This drop-in program runs all year. No advance registration needed.

$2.00 donation per person appreciated.                                

 

 

 

Trek Tifft
Walking has many benefits and is described as “the nearest activity to perfect exercise.” You'll benefit from improved health, saving money and by enjoying the natural environment. Trek before work, during lunch or to escape from rush hour traffic.

Tifft Outreach Programs
Reserve the services of a Tifft naturalist and your location becomes the great outdoors! We will tailor this one-hour program to meet your needs.  Let nature do the teaching in your backyard. Perfect for Scouts and other community groups.

$100 for first group, $85 for each additional group on same day at the same location.

*An additional fee will be added to programs requiring travel greater than 25 miles.

History and Wildlife of Tifft Nature Preserve
The history of Tifft is an amazing story. A slide show and bio-fact presentation is included along with a short walk if desired. Perfect for seniors, human service groups or history buffs.

From the rich history of the Preserve
to its various plants and wildlife, our tour guides can answer any of your Tifft questions as you take a nature walk through
the beautiful scenic trails. A wonderful escape for a relaxing Sunday afternoon!

Edible and Medicinal Wildflower Workshop
What’s so special about cattails? Get that
answer and much more. Take a guided tour
through the Tifft Nature Preserve and learn how to identify various plants and flowers and find out what makes them unique. Learn about the natural healing powers of herbs and flowers, and enjoy an edible wildflower demonstration. Don’t worry…we won’t forget to tell you how to identify poisonous wildflowers and plants!
