Set to open in July 2026, Science Stadium is the museum’s first brand-new permanent exhibit to open since 2018 and is being presented in partnership with the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and Buffalo Bandits. Designed as an immersive and highly interactive experience for visitors of all ages, the exhibit will feature 17 hands‑on activities that explore the science behind sports—from on‑field performance and sports medicine to the technology that keeps athletes healthy and the social science of fandom culture.
Science Stadium will also highlight the wide range of STEM careers connected to sports, including medical trainers, broadcast professionals, sound engineers, and specialists in adaptive sports and accessibility engineering. The exhibit aims to inspire curiosity and broaden awareness of the many scientific and technical career fields that support the region’s beloved professional teams, as well as the cultural influence of Buffalo’s dedicated sports fans.
During the event, BMS President and CEO Gary Siddall and the participating elected officials spoke about the exhibit’s progress and its significance for Western New York’s educational and cultural landscape.
“Science Stadium represents a powerful intersection of science, sports, and community. By connecting STEM concepts to the teams our region is passionate about, we’re creating an experience that will spark discovery and inspire future innovators,” said Siddall. “This exhibit is also part of a broader evolution underway at the Buffalo Museum of Science, one that reflects our commitment to growing, adapting, and reimagining how we engage learners of all ages. As we reach this milestone for the Science Stadium exhibit, we’re excited for the progress still ahead and the continued transformation of the museum.”
As part of the announcement, attendees toured the future exhibit space, offering a behind‑the‑scenes look at construction underway. The museum also unveiled renderings of several exhibit components, including a scream room that will measure the decibel levels of an exhibit visitor’s cheer and a station where guests can design their own mascot to influence fans’ spirit and energy levels, providing a preview of the dynamic, sports‑themed experiences that will greet visitors when the exhibit opens in summer 2026.
Elected officials emphasized the importance of continued investment in cultural institutions and STEM education, noting that Science Stadium will serve as a regional asset that strengthens learning opportunities, tourism, and community pride.
Senator April N.M. Baskin said, “In Buffalo, our love of sports runs deep, and I’m proud to support the Buffalo Museum of Science and its partners as they turn that shared passion into an innovative, hands-on learning experience. The Science Stadium exhibit will connect the excitement Western New Yorkers have for our hometown teams with interactive STEM education, opening doors for young people to see the science behind the games they love and the careers they can pursue.”
Mayor Sean Ryan said, “The Buffalo Museum of Science plays a critical role in sparking curiosity and opening doors for young people across our city. The addition of the Science Stadium Exhibit will be a great attraction for families, children, and tourists, and will help prepare the next generation of Buffalonians for careers in STEM.”
Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes said, “Funding for the Science Stadium exhibit serves many purposes, including cementing the state’s commitment to investing in culturally significant institutions. It is also important for our young people to learn about STEM careers within the realm of sports. I am proud to stand with my colleagues at the state and local level in celebrating this milestone for the Buffalo Museum of Science.”
Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said, “This impressive and exciting milestone helps build anticipation for what will be state-of-the-art exhibit space. Strategic investment in important cultural institutions strengthens our region for residents as well as visitors to Erie County who will enjoy learning about the science behind the sports we all enjoy watching in person and on television. I thank the members of the Western New York delegation who represent us in Albany for their leadership in helping to secure the funding needed to help move this project forward and look forward to a future ribbon-cutting ceremony when construction is complete.”
The BMS said once the space renovations are complete, the exhibit installation will begin in May. Entry to Science Stadium will be included with general admission and free for museum members.
