BUFFALO, NY — The Board of Trustees for the Buffalo Society of Sciences (BSNS), which operates the Buffalo Museum of Science (BMS) and Tifft Nature Preserve, elected a new Chair, welcomed new trustees, and recognized an outgoing member for his years of service and dedication to advancing the BSNS’s mission.
Jessica Copeland was elected as Chair, succeeding Keith Lukasik, who served in the role since 2023. Copeland is a Member at Bond Schoeneck & King and Chair of the firm’s AI Committee and Practice Group, Co-chair of the firm’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Practice Group and Deputy General Counsel for Data Privacy matters. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from New York University, and a Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law. Copeland joined the BSNS Board of Trustees in 2020 and has served as Vice Chair since 2023.
“I am excited to welcome Jessica as our newly elected Board Chair. Her dedication to the Society, passion for our community, thoughtful approach to strategic growth, and clear vision for our future makes her the ideal next leader to guide the board into the next chapter for the Museum and Tifft,” said BSNS President and CEO Gary Siddall.
“We are grateful for Keith’s thoughtful approach, steadiness, and commitment to best practices in board governance, as well as his support in laying the groundwork for envisioning the museum’s next chapter. Jessica has been deeply engaged in launching the master planning process and is well prepared to carry the vision forward with energy as we revitalize and reconfigure the museum’s second floor as part of our 100th anniversary in 2029.”
The Board elected two new members, Christina A. Brozyna and Alfred J. (A.J.) Wright, to three-year terms.
Brozyna is Executive Vice President and Head of Affluent Markets at M&T Bank. She has more than 25 years of senior financial services leadership experience and holds both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Wright is Director of Government Affairs for Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York. He holds a bachelor’s degree in government from St. Lawrence University and brings more than two decades of experience in public policy, government relations, and community leadership.
“It is a privilege to serve as Board Chair, and we’re thrilled to welcome Christina and A.J. to our Board of Trustees. Their leadership and energy supporting our mission and the Western New York region will strengthen our work in meaningful ways,” said Copeland. “As we look ahead, I’m excited to advance the strong groundwork already laid and help guide the Museum and Tifft toward a future driven by innovation, ambition, and transformative ideas.”
Siddall and Copeland recognized the service of outgoing trustee Joe Lombardo, who joined the board in 2017 and completed his third consecutive term this year.
