Food & Family Care Drive

A cowardly act of senseless violence driven by hate took place in the heart of the East Side community
that left 10 dead, three wounded, and countless others with emotional wounds that may never fully
heal.

As the families and loved ones of the victims grieve, our surrounding neighborhood is left shaken and
asking why any person or people is targeted for no other reason than the color of their skin.

It is the diversity of people, cultures, and lived experiences that—together—make our city, our region,
and our world a better and more beautiful place. We can all play a part to lift our neighbors up and
show them love and support in the wake of this horrific tragedy.

Today, our neighbor’s only nearby grocery store has been temporarily closed, leaving many with limited
access to food and personal care items for their families.

Our Teen STEM Initiative (TSI) students have launched a Food & Family Care Drive to help their
community, which will be donated to local organization(s) meaningful to them and their community.

A collection cart has been placed outside the main Museum entrance and is available for drop-off
donations 24 hours a day. Without knowing how long the supermarket will be closed, our TSI students
have not yet set an end date for this drive.

During your next visit to the Museum or simply driving by, please consider donating unexpired, non-
perishable food items and childcare needs to help our neighbors.

Some of the most-needed items include:
Canned/jarred proteins:
– Tuna
– Chicken
– SPAM
– Peanut Butter
Canned/jarred vegetables
Family Care:
– Diapers
– Wipes
– Baby Formula

About Teen STEM Initiative
The Buffalo Society of Natural Science’s Teen STEM initiative is offered to teens on Buffalo’s East Side
and provides participants with STEM learning and job-readiness skills. By piquing STEM interest in teens,
TSI allows youth ages 14 to 18 to explore diverse fields of study and provides them social and emotional
experiences and mentorship that will serve them well while they’re deciding whether to apply to college,
complete a certificate at a trade school, or enter the workforce.
