National Engineers Week

This year our National Engineers Week theme is Creating the Future!  Engineers play a vital role in innovating solutions to global challenges that impact future generations. By working together to develop new technologies, products and opportunities, engineers create new possibilities that make the world a better place. Let’s inspire the next generation by celebrating all the ways engineers Create the Future!

  • Dates: Sunday, February 19 to Saturday, February 25, 2023
  • 11am – 2pm daily
  • All ages
  • Included with admission or membership. Due to anticipated school break crowds, advanced reservations are strongly encouraged for the Reinventing Reality exhibit

Sunday,  February 19 – University at Buffalo Engineering Day
Engineers Week is a time to recognize the critical work of engineers, technicians, and technologists. Meet college students from a variety of engineering backgrounds and see what the clubs of the UB Student Association have been working on to create new possibilities that make the world a better place.

Monday, Feb. 20 – Birds are Engineers
Explore and celebrate the engineering and inspiration that come from birds. Catch a Principles of Flight stage show at the Science Spot at 10am, and get up close to understand nest engineering, owl sounds, and other egg-citing egg facts at stations throughout the Museum. Part of “Birds on the Niagara Festival 2023”.

 

Tuesday, Feb. 21 – Buffalo-based Engineering
Let’s Go, Buffalo! Buffalo Engineering Day celebrates local ingenuity and designers that come together to elevate our community and the world at large. Let’s inspire the next generation of homegrown engineers by celebrating all the ways engineers create new possibilities that make the world a better place.

Wednesday, Feb. 22 – Fiction Predictions
What did people 100 years ago imagine for the future? What do we dream of for the world in the next 100 years? Engineers play a vital role in innovating solutions to global challenges that impact future generations. What challenges of today can we solve for tomorrow?

 

Thursday, Feb. 23 – National Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
Introduce a Girl to Engineering, or Girl Day, is a time when volunteers, educators, and others act as role models, facilitate engineering activities, and show girls how engineers change our world. DiscoverE’s Despite the Odds research found that this simple formula helps girls develop an interest in engineering, builds their confidence in their problem-solving skills, and creates a STEM identity.

Friday, Feb. 24 – Engineering for Everyone

Saturday, Feb. 25 – Youth in Engineering led by the BMS Teen STEM Initiative

All week we’ve been inspired by adults who have been leading the charge of engineering. Now we’re shining a spotlight on the brilliance of our own youth leaders in the Teen STEM Initiative at the Buffalo Museum of Science. The teens have planned and developed all the ideas you’ll see when you visit on Saturday.
